Gunman gets 35 years for shooting former UFC fighter and his son

Harold Thompson, a 17-year-old black male, was sentenced to thirty-five years in prison. Last month he pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon, two counts of attempted robbery with a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm after juvenile adjudication.

Thompson and another black teenager approached Burnett in the parking lot of a Tulsa, OK gym and demanded money. Burnett refused and Thompson began shooting. Burnett’s eighteen-year-old son Freddie charged the gunman and tried to subdue him.

Burnett was shot three times in the stomach and once in the groin. He needing several surgeries. Freddie was shot in the leg.

Thompson was 16 years old at the time. His accomplice was Kywaun Washington, who was 17 at the time. Washington is still being held at a juvenile detention facility and has not yet been prosecuted.

Burnet fought seven professional fights. He ended his career with two wins and a loss in the UFC, before retiring to have children.
